Loss assessor or loss adjuster?

When you make a claim, your insurer may appoint a loss adjuster. They are paid by the insurer and work on the insurer’s behalf. A loss assessor is someone you appoint. They work for you: preparing your claim, gathering evidence, and negotiating the settlement with your insurer.

What does it cost?

Most loss assessors charge a fee based on a percentage of the final settlement, and some charge a fixed fee. Every assessor sets their own terms, so always ask for the fee and the terms in writing before you sign anything.
